Nova Scotia Snow Storm: Halifax Prepares for Winter’s Return
Don’t pack away those winter essentials just yet, Halifax! While sunny breaks are anticipated on Sunday, Mother Nature has one more powerful punch in store for Nova Scotia. According to Environment Canada, a major winter storm is expected to hit the province on Monday, bringing with it heavy snow and strong winds.
A special weather statement has been issued for the eastern half of Nova Scotia, forecasting 15 to 25 cm of snow throughout Monday. Environment Canada warns that “snow accumulation may make travel slow or hazardous. Roads and walkways could become slippery and difficult to navigate.” Residents are urged to exercise extreme caution if travel is necessary.
Coastal Concerns & Potential Disruptions
The storm isn’t just about snow. Higher than normal water levels are also expected along the Atlantic Coast of Nova Scotia at high tide Monday night, potentially leading to localized flooding. There is a real possibility of school closures and disruptions to other essential services on Tuesday as the region deals with the aftermath.
A Long Winter Already
This winter has been particularly challenging for Haligonians and communities across the Maritimes. Weather data reveals that between December 1, 2025, and February 28, 2025, there were 49 days with snow on the ground. As of today, that number has climbed to 62 days – a testament to the relentless winter conditions.
CityNews meteorologist Allister Aalders notes that the total snowfall accumulation could change as the storm’s track is still being monitored. However, he anticipates a shift to rain by Tuesday. “These numbers are not set in stone, especially if and where mixing occurs which would limit or lower snow amounts,” Aalders explains. Stay tuned to CityNews for the latest updates and forecasts.
