Stephen Curry’s Knee Injury: A Warriors Update
SAN FRANCISCO – February 19, 2026 – Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry will undergo another evaluation in 10 days regarding his ongoing right knee injury, according to league sources who spoke with ESPN. This means Curry will be sidelined for at least five more games, impacting the Warriors’ playoff push.
Recent MRI scans have shown no new damage, but persistent pain and swelling continue to prevent Curry from returning to the court. The team has officially diagnosed the issue as patellofemoral pain syndrome, commonly known as “runner’s knee.” This condition can be particularly challenging for athletes requiring explosive movements, like Curry.
Initial Optimism Dashed
Prior to the All-Star break, Warriors coach Steve Kerr expressed hope that the swelling and discomfort in Curry’s knee would subside, potentially clearing him for Thursday night’s game. However, Curry informed the training staff on Wednesday evening that he wasn’t yet comfortable participating in a full scrimmage. The pain has been recurring even after individual workouts.
“It’s just lingering soreness,” Kerr stated before Thursday’s game against the Boston Celtics. “We were hoping he’d be ready for tonight, but it wasn’t the case. He just needs more time.”
A History of the Injury
Curry initially experienced the issue during an individual workout on January 24th in Minneapolis. He attempted to play through the pain for several games, but ultimately had to sit down to prevent further aggravation. He missed the five games leading up to the All-Star break due to the persistent discomfort.
Kerr emphasized the need for caution, stating before the break, “We’ve got to be certain… He’s got to be certain. It is a little nebulous, but that’s the nature of the injury.”
Curry’s Perspective
In a February 5th interview with ESPN, Curry acknowledged that his knee was “trending in the right direction,” but stressed the importance of a cautious approach. “You have to try to get rid of all the inflammation and pain,” Curry explained. “It’s something we still have to monitor and injury-manage, but it’s something where, if I come back too early, it could flare up.”
The Warriors will undoubtedly miss Curry’s scoring prowess and leadership during his absence. The team will need to rely on other key players, such as Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, to step up in his place. The impact of Curry’s absence on the Warriors’ playoff chances remains to be seen.
