San Jose Sharks and the NHL Join Forces in the Battle Against Cancer
For the San Jose Sharks and the entire NHL community, the game is about more than just goals and trophies; it’s about making a tangible difference in people’s lives. This season, the Sharks are proud to stand alongside 31 other teams in the powerful Hockey Fights Cancer™ initiative, powered by the V Foundation for Cancer Research and presented by AstraZeneca.
This global movement leverages the passion of hockey fans to drive support for lifesaving cancer research and encourage essential health screenings. It’s a mission where the spirit of the game meets the urgency of medical science.
Kickstarting Hope: The NHL Frozen Frenzy
The campaign officially hit the ice with the ‘NHL Frozen Frenzy,’ a high-energy event broadcast across ESPN2, Disney+, and the ESPN App. To mark the start of the season, Hockey Fights Cancer and the V Foundation invested $100,000 directly into cancer research, setting a bold tone for the months ahead.
Throughout November, the San Jose Sharks and the rest of the league will host dedicated in-game awareness nights, turning arenas into hubs of hope and solidarity.
Real Stories, Real Impact: The ‘It’s Personal’ Campaign
This year, the initiative is expanding its ‘It’s Personal’ campaign. Rather than focusing solely on athletes, the league is spotlighting real hockey fans and survivors whose lives have been touched by cancer. This effort reinforces a sobering truth: cancer affects every corner of the hockey community, from the front office to the furthest seat in the stands.
Champions of the Cause
The fight is led by 16 HFC Champions, including players like Josh Manson and Clayton Keller. Their personal connections to the cause drive the “The Winter Face-Off: The Ultimate Fan Sweepstakes,” a fundraising effort leading up to the 2027 Discover NHL Winter Classic.
Additionally, legendary goal-scorer Alex Ovechkin continues his “THE GR8 CHASE for Victory Over Cancer®,” raising funds for pediatric research for every goal he scores during his final season.
Strategic Partnerships Saving Lives
