Las Vegas Weather: A Week of Active Conditions
Southern Nevada is bracing for a series of weather systems bringing widespread precipitation, heavy mountain snow, and gusty winds. First Alert Weather Days are in effect through Thursday, demanding vigilance and preparation. Here’s a detailed breakdown of what to expect in the Las Vegas weather forecast.
Current Conditions & Tuesday’s Outlook
Rain is currently spreading eastward, expected to reach the Las Vegas Valley by late afternoon. The heaviest rainfall is anticipated between now and 9 p.m. Accompanying the rain are strong southerly winds, with gusts between 40 and 50 mph across Southern Nevada. A Wind Advisory is in effect through Tuesday morning, creating potentially difficult driving conditions. Remember to check current conditions with the National Weather Service.
Mountain Snow Alert
The Spring Mountains, Kyle Canyon, and Lee Canyon are under a heavy snow alert. Expect 8 to 14 inches of snowfall within a 12-hour period this evening. Snow levels will initially be around 7,000 feet, gradually decreasing throughout the day. This presents significant challenges for mountain travel.
What to do: Secure loose outdoor items, reduce speed on roadways, closely monitor weather updates, and stay informed.
Today’s Forecast: High: 60° | Conditions: Partly Cloudy and Windy
Tuesday Night & Wednesday: Round Two
A brief respite from precipitation is expected during Tuesday, with increased sunshine across the Las Vegas Valley. However, winds will remain strong, with gusts continuing between 40 and 50 mph. Unfortunately, another weather system is on its way, bringing more rain and mountain snow later Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
What to expect: Continued windy conditions and the arrival of another storm. The highest chance of rain will be later in the evening.
Tuesday’s Forecast: High: 55° | Conditions: Rain and Gusty Winds
Lower Snow Levels & Valley Flurries
This second system will bring widespread rain similar to today (0.15 to 0.25 inches in the valleys), but with significantly lower snow levels. Snow levels will start around 4,500 feet and rapidly drop to 1,500 to 3,000 feet. This means another round of heavy snow for the Spring Mountains (8 to 14 inches expected), and even lower elevation snow is possible: 2 to 3 inches on Interstate 15 through Mountain Pass and 1 to 2 inches along the Red Rock Scenic Loop.
There’s even a chance for snow flurries in the Las Vegas Valley into Wednesday morning, particularly in higher elevations like Centennial Hills and Summerlin, before showers move out in the evening. Wind gusts will be similar to today or slightly stronger (45 to 55 mph), creating hazardous roadway conditions. Be aware of slick roads, ponding water, and potential localized minor flooding in low-lying areas.
Wednesday’s Forecast: High: 54° | Conditions: Scattered Showers and Wind
Thursday & Beyond: A Gradual Improvement
A weaker system will move through on Thursday, bringing moderate (40-50%) chances for scattered showers. Snow levels will be around 3,000 to 4,000 feet. Wind will remain a factor, though conditions may be slightly less intense than the previous two days.
Thursday’s Forecast: Scattered Showers and Wind
Fortunately, drier conditions are expected to return to Southern Nevada as the active weather pattern moves east. Temperatures will gradually warm through the weekend, reaching the mid-60s by Sunday. Winds will subside as the storms clear out.
Weekend Forecast: Friday High: 56° | Saturday High: 58° | Sunday High: 64° Conditions: Partly Cloudy to Mostly Clear
What to expect: Much better conditions for outdoor plans and travel. Stay tuned for further updates on the Las Vegas weather.
