Tommy Paul Secures Hard-Fought Victory at the Dallas Open
Former Nexo Dallas Open champion Tommy Paul demonstrated resilience and skill, overcoming a tough challenge from Jenson Brooksby to advance to the second round of the ATP 500 tournament. The match, lasting two hours and 25 minutes, saw Paul emerge victorious with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(4).
Paul showcased impressive form, particularly with his forehand, striking 18 winners. He also dominated on his first serve in the crucial third set, winning an astounding 21 out of 23 points. This victory highlights Paul’s continued strong performance following his impressive run to the fourth round at the Australian Open last month, where he previously lifted the trophy in 2024 (when the tournament was an ATP 250) and reached the semi-finals last season.
“I feel like he can put the ball all over the court and can make you move around so much,” Paul commented after the match. “I like to feel that I move well, so I make it tough for him to end points. I was holding a lot easier than I normally do against Jenson and the first set and a half was way quicker than normal, so it was a little bit different. I was happy to get through it.”
Fritz and Korda Also Advance
Top seed Taylor Fritz also enjoyed a successful day, swiftly defeating Brandon Nakashima 6-3, 6-4 in just one hour and nine minutes. Fritz maintained a high level of performance on his first serve, winning 83% of points and saving all three break points he faced, as reported by Infosys ATP Stats. He attributes his success to finding rhythm after his previous match.
“I think coming off the match from the other night, I got a lot of rhythm,” Fritz stated. “I felt like the ball was coming up a bit more, I had a bit more time, I felt like I could really attack more than I was able to [the other night]. I felt like I was hitting the ball great.”
Sebastian Korda continued the American success story, ousting eighth seed Frances Tiafoe 7-5, 6-1. This win tied Korda’s Lexus ATP Head2Head series with Tiafoe at 4-4. Korda’s dominant performance included winning 96% of points on his first serve and confidently utilizing his backhand.
Rising Stars Shine
American Ethan Quinn also secured a victory, defeating wild card Trevor Svajda 7-6(3), 7-5. Quinn, who previously reached the third round at the Australian Open, demonstrated his growing potential. He will next face Marin Cilic, who recently achieved his 600th tour-level victory.
Tommy Paul will next face Miomir Kecmanovic, while Taylor Fritz will compete against Sebastian Korda in the quarter-finals. These matches promise further exciting action at the Nexo Dallas Open.
