Pelton suggests that if the Mavericks are open to further negotiations with the Lakers – despite recent front office changes following the firing of General Manager Nico Harrison (who oversaw the Luka Doncic trade) – Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington represent valuable assets. Marshall also fits the bill as a potential acquisition.

The Lakers previously explored acquiring both Marshall and Gafford before the February 5th trade deadline. Their focus was on adding a versatile, two-way wing player who would seamlessly integrate into Head Coach JJ Redick’s system. While they ultimately landed sharpshooter Luke Kennard, the need for a player like Marshall hasn’t diminished.

Naji Marshall: A Versatile Addition

Although not a prolific three-point shooter, Naji Marshall brings a diverse skillset to the table. The Xavier University product excels at creating opportunities off the dribble and in triple-threat situations, and is known for his tenacious perimeter defense. He’s a player who takes pride in his defensive efforts.

This season with the Mavericks, Marshall is averaging an impressive 15.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.0 steals per game, showcasing his all-around impact. He boasts a field goal percentage of 53.1% and a three-point percentage of 31.4% across 52 games.

Daniel Gafford: Interior Presence

Daniel Gafford provides a strong interior presence, offering rebounding and shot-blocking capabilities that could address a need for the Lakers. His athleticism and defensive instincts make him a valuable asset in the paint. He’s a player who can alter shots and control the boards.
