A True Princess Returns: Anne Hathaway Honored at the Disney Legends Awards

When we think of Disney royalty, we often think of animated characters. But for millions of fans, there is one real-life actress who embodies the spirit of a Disney princess more than anyone else: Anne Hathaway. In a heartwarming ceremony during the latest D23 fan event, the versatile actress was officially inducted into the prestigious Disney Legends Awards.

From Genovia to Legend Status

Anne Hathaway’s relationship with Disney isn’t new; it’s a legacy that has spanned over two decades. For a quarter of a century, she has been the face of royal charm, starting with her iconic role as Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries. But her “princess resume” doesn’t stop there. From the magical whimsy of Ella Enchanted to her powerhouse performance as Andy Sachs (who, in our hearts, is a Disney-level icon of transformation), Anne has consistently delivered grace and talent.

Being named a Disney Legend is one of the highest honors the company bestows, recognizing individuals who have made an extraordinary contribution to the Disney legacy.

A Star-Studded Ceremony at D23

The induction ceremony was a masterclass in glamour and emotion. Anne was introduced by director David Frankel and the legendary Anna Wintour. In a humorous twist that delighted the crowd, Wintour—the formidable editor-in-chief of Vogue—did not appear in person at Disneyland in Anaheim, but instead sent a polished video message, proving that even the fashion elite can’t miss a Disney milestone.

A Family Affair

While the award is a professional triumph, for Anne, the day was deeply personal. The event was transformed into a joyful family reunion, with her husband, parents, and sons all in attendance. For her children, who are at the peak age of Disney obsession, seeing their mother recognized as a permanent icon of the magic kingdom was a moment they will never forget.

What’s Next for the Newest Disney Legend?

Beyond the prestige and the inevitable park perks (we can only imagine the VIP access!), this honor opens the door to endless possibilities. Given Anne’s range and the love Disney has for her, fans are already speculating about future roles. Could we see her in the Star Wars universe? Whether she becomes a galactic matriarch or continues to inspire new generations of princesses, one thing is certain: Anne Hathaway is now forever woven into the fabric of Disney magic.
