Snowbirds Victoria: A Spectacular Aerial Display Over the Inner Harbour
Victoria is gearing up for an unforgettable evening as the skies light up with a powerful display of Canadian aviation excellence. The Canadian Forces Snowbirds, renowned for their precision and grace, are returning to the city to perform a breathtaking flyover during the David Foster Foundation’s 40th anniversary concert.
A Power-Packed Flyover: Snowbirds and CF-18 Hornets
Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 8. At approximately 7:30 p.m., spectators at Victoria’s Inner Harbour will witness the iconic Snowbirds joined by a trio of Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) CF-18 Hornet fighter jets. Coming from 4 Wing Cold Lake, Alberta, these multi-purpose frontline jets are the backbone of Canada’s air defence and tactical support.
According to the Department of National Defence (DND), the aircraft will maintain a safe altitude of at least 500 feet above the highest obstacles on their flight path. As with all Royal Canadian Air Force operations, the flyby is meticulously planned for public safety and remains subject to weather and flying conditions.
Celebrating 40 Years of the David Foster Foundation
The aerial spectacle serves as a grand highlight for the David Foster Foundation’s milestone anniversary. The concert, running from 7:30 p.m. to 10:15 p.m., promises a star-studded evening featuring world-class talent, including:
- n
- CeeLo Green
- Josh Groban
- The Tenors
- Daniel Emmet
Beyond the music and the drone and fireworks finale, the event supports a vital cause. The David Foster Foundation provides essential financial assistance to families with children requiring life-saving organ transplants, covering costs for travel, groceries, and accommodations while raising critical awareness about organ donation.
Planning Your Visit: Tips for Attendees
With thousands of people expected to flock to the downtown core, local authorities and organizers suggest the following to ensure a smooth experience:
- n
- Arrive Early: Head downtown well before 7:30 p.m. to secure a prime viewing spot.

- Road Closures: Be aware that the Victoria Police Department (VicPD) has warned of road closures throughout the weekend.
- Viewing Areas: Large LED screens will be stationed along the legislature lawns for those who cannot get close to the stage. Note that parts of the lower and upper causeway will be reserved.
A Week of Aviation Excellence in Victoria
This flyover is the perfect capstone to a week of excitement. Earlier on August 4, the Snowbirds captivated crowds at Dallas Road with a 45-minute aerial display, flying at speeds of 600 km/h with a staggering precision of just 1.2 metres between aircraft.
Whether you are a fan of high-performance aviation or world-class music, the combination of the Snowbirds in Victoria and David Foster’s legendary compositions is set to create a historic night for the community.
