Amazon Customers Have Until July 27 to Claim Settlement Funds: Are You Eligible?

If you have been an Amazon Prime member over the last few years, you might be entitled to a piece of a massive $2.5 billion settlement. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has reached an agreement with the e-commerce giant following allegations of deceptive enrollment and cancellation practices. However, the clock is ticking—eligible users must act before the deadline to secure their funds.

What is the Amazon Prime FTC Settlement?

The settlement stems from a lawsuit filed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which alleged that Amazon used “dark patterns” to trick consumers into signing up for Prime memberships without their informed consent. Furthermore, the FTC claimed that Amazon intentionally made the cancellation process unnecessarily difficult.

To resolve these claims, Amazon agreed to allocate $1.5 billion into a consumer refund fund and pay an additional $1 billion civil penalty. While Amazon did not admit to any wrongdoing, the company is now required to implement clearer disclosures and simplify the way customers can decline or cancel their Prime subscriptions.

Do I Qualify for the Refund?

Not every Prime member is eligible. To qualify for a claim, you must meet the following specific criteria:

• Timeline: You must have signed up for Prime or unsuccessfully attempted to cancel online between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025.
• Enrollment Flow: You must have enrolled through one of the challenged processes, such as the universal Prime decision page, the shipping selection page, the single-page checkout, or the Prime Video enrollment process.
• Usage Limits: You must have used more than three but fewer than 10 Prime benefits during any 12-month period of your enrollment.
• No Previous Refund: You must not have already received an automatic refund (which Amazon sent to some users in late 2025).

How to Claim Your Settlement Funds

Eligible customers could receive up to $51. If you haven’t received an automatic refund, you can manually file your claim through the official channels:

2. Follow the on-screen instructions to verify your eligibility.
3. Submit your claim for payment.
